Band 7 Senior Sister / Charge Nurse - Medicine Outpatients

Outpatients see on average 65,000 patients a month working with a large variety of specialities to provide the best possible patient experience. An opportunity has arisen for Band 7 Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in our Medical Outpatients.
We are looking for enthusiastic, vibrant Registered Nurse to lead our five medicine outpatients' areas at St Georges Hospital. You will need to be a dynamic and motivated NMC registered nurse with a minimum of 3 years post- registration experience.

Main duties of the job
To support and deputise for the Outpatient Matron to ensure the provision of excellent nursing care and the effective management of staff and other resources within Medicine Outpatient areas and to carry out the day-to-day line management of the Band 6 Junior Sisters within Medicine Outpatients areas. Also, to ensure that there are education and training opportunities for all staff, including pre and post registration students and /or providing specialist knowledge if working in a clinical area where a post registration course is essential. To ensure that the environment offers a safe and comfortable area for patients

PROFESSIONAL/CLINICAL FUNCTIONS
1.1 Develop the department philosophy and models of care to ensure that all Trust
policies and procedures are implemented and to lead on the development of nursing practice.
1.2 To ensure that outpatients clinic areas are safe and meet the Care Quality Commission Standards through regular quality inspections, risk assessment and management
1..3 To assess the effectiveness of current practices within the ward/department and introduce innovations that lead to improved quality of care
- Maintain personal contact with patients, relatives and carers being courteous and sensitive to their needs for privacy and dignity and act as an effective role model ensuring a friendly environment at all times.
- In conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, ensure that nursing care is provided to meet complex needs.
- To ensure that there are systems in place to store check and administer drugs in accordance with the Trust and NMC policies.
- To provide expert guidance and supervision aiding problem solving and clinical decision making.
- Ensuring that accurate and timely nursing records are maintained, monitoring
standards and taking corrective action as appropriate
- To continually review the setting of staffing levels/skill mix in accordance with the changing needs of the service and informing the Senior Nurse of any problems that may arise.
- To be proactive in the prevention and management of complaints and when they do occur to investigate and respond in accordance with the St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust complaints and improvements policies.
1.11To lead and motivate the nursing team by giving clear direction and setting
achievable objectives.
1.12 To be a strong and visible presence in the ward /department ensuring that
there is regular contact with patients, carers, and staff.
- To Communicate effectively, influencing and working with the multidisciplinary team to promote excellent care and informed clinical decisions.
- To Contribute to patient and public involvement at a local level.
- To ensure that nursing care is assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated using research evidence as appropriate.
- To provide leadership, motivating the department team to ensure excellent nursing care, providing support and the supervision of more junior staff.
- To prioritise own work and that of others to ensure the department is managed effectively.
- To contribute to the local resolution, investigation and follow up action of any informal or formal complaints, taking the lead in the absence of the Outpatient Matron.
- To provide specialist knowledge and expertise in a specified clinical area or speciality, as appropriate.
