Job summary

We have an excellent opportunity for a Psychological Therapist to join our well-established Department of Clinical Neuropsychology and Clinical Health Psychology to deliver input to the Macmillan Cancer Psychological Support (CaPS) team, St George's Hospital.

This post would suit a Psychological Therapist with experience of working in physical health settings / medical teams, who is passionate about supporting those affected by cancer and keen to contribute to innovative service development.

Main duties of the job

The Cancer Psychological Support (CaPS) Team at St George's Hospital is an innovative service that offers specialist psychological support and mental health expertise to those affected by a diagnosis of cancer and its treatment. The multidisciplinary team offers psychological therapy, clinical psychology and liaison psychiatry input and is made up of experienced clinicians who can work with patients to address their psychological and emotional needs using a range of evidence-based interventions. The team works closely multidisciplinary cancer teams on an on-going basis to help to support the identification and management of psychological and emotional concerns and to support the embedding of holistic care in cancer services, including more formal teaching, training and supervision.

  • Post qualification experience of working as an autonomous psychological therapist
  • Training and experience in time-limited therapy and a range of counselling techniques
  • Training and experience in psychological assessment
  • Experience of psychological work with people with physical health problems
  • Experience of working in the NHS and with medical teams
  • Maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems and verbal and physical abuse.
