An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our dedicated team of professionals, as a full time band 6 Transfusion Practitioner.
The role of the transfusion practitioner team is to provide safe and effective working practices to all staff involved in blood transfusion within St George's University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and for all patients receiving blood components and blood products.
Main duties of the job
The role involves working trust-wide with staff from all disciplines, ensuring that patients requiring transfusion of blood components and blood products receive the highest standard of safe and effective care. The transfusion practitioner role also includes delivering the Haematology Iron Deficiency anaemia service, as part of our commitment to Patient Blood Management.
The successful candidate will be a keen, well organised and motivated individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The role requires a high level of contact with clinical teams across the Trust and includes a requirement to liaise with patients and relatives. Being able to work both autonomously and as part of a team are also essential skills required.
To apply, you must be a state registered nurse, educated to an appropriate level with a minimum of two years post registration experience. Knowledge and experience of the transfusion processes is essential.
In addition , familiarity with the treatment of iron deficiency anaemia would be desirable.
The post will be based within the department of Haematology, St Georges Hospital NHS Trust which is sited in the Medical School building in Jenner Wing.
