Job summary
The appointee will participate in the delivery of safe, high quality neonatal services for local and network babies as outlined by British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM), the NHS Long Term Plan and the Consultant Contract. The postholder will have special interests and expertise to complement that of the consultant group.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will provide specialist care to neonates on a medical and surgical tertiary neonatal unit that is one of three lead centres in South London. South West London has approximately 20,000 deliveries each year and approximately 5000 deliver at St. George's. St George's provides specialist neonatal surgical services including neurosurgery for neighbouring networks covering a large geographical area which extends down to the south coast. The unit currently has 12 intensive care cots, 12 high dependency and 16 special care cots. We care for all medical and surgical conditions requiring neonatal care except complex cardiac and ECMO cases. Available facilities include conventional and high frequency ventilation, neurally-adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA), inhaled nitric oxide, echocardiography, POCUS, complex imaging and neuroimaging, CFM, EEG, and up to three cots for therapeutic hypothermia. We envisage the postholder will lead work on junior doctor rota / workforce planning and have a special interest to complement that of the consultant group.
