This is an exciting opportunity for a clinically qualified individual to join the growing and dynamic neurology department at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This post is a substantive post in Movement Disorders AND General Neurology (0.7 WTE, 7 NHS PAs). In addition, the post includes time within the Charles Dent Metabolic Unit at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), part of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (0.3 WTE, 3 NHS PAs).
Main duties of the job
St George's has a dedicated Movement Disorders Service managing secondary and tertiary care Movement Disorders referrals from South-West London and Surrey. The Movement Disorders group includes dedicated clinics for the assessment and treatment of complex movement disorders including Parkinson's disease, tremor and dystonia and incorporates the fastest growing functional neurosurgery service in the UK.
We have a large population of patients treated with device assisted therapy (Apomorphine and Duodopa) as well as a dedicated Tic and Tourette's clinic and an ataxia clinic. We have an extensive botulinum toxin injection service for dystonia and tremor, including working closely with ENT and performing procedures with EMG and USS guidance.
The Movement Disorders group includes provision of in-reach support to ward-based patients on the Clinical Neurosciences wards as well as in-patients in the wider Hospital. You would be joining a team comprising several Consultant Neurologists with sub-specialist clinical and research interests in Movement Disorders Neurology, three experienced Parkinson's Disease Clinical Nurse Specialists as well as a Nursing Associate.
The Charles Dent Metabolic Unit at NHNN provides advanced, highly-specialised care to adult patients with inherited metabolic diseases, with a large proportion of cases presenting with Movement Disorders and other neurological complications.

This will be signed by the Chief Executive and will be effective from the commencement date of the appointment.

- It will cover all aspects of professional practice including clinical work, research, teaching, education and managerial responsibilities.

- It will, in addition, include personal objectives, details of links to wider service objectives and details of the support required to fulfil the job plan and its objectives.
The ethos at St George's is that all consultants based on site will help with all the core aspects of neurology. In addition, all consultants have to contribute to the governance and running of the department, working closely with the Care Group Lead and the Management Team. A governance role will be allocated depending on the needs of the service.
