Lead Cardiac Physiologist (Cath Lab)

Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Band 8a Lead Cardiac Physiologist to lead and to work as part of our Cardiac Physiology team . We are a friendly, education minded department looking to support your continuing development and ongoing CPD.

The post holder will have direct responsibility for provision of Physiologist services within the 5 busy state of the art cardiac catheter labs of St. George's University NHS Foundation Trust and will report to the Principal Cardiac Physiologist (Heart Rhythm & Intervention).

You will be required to hold:

-BSc Cardiac Physiology/Healthcare Science (Cardiology) or equivalent

- Postgraduate qualification in CRM such as BHRS/IBHRE/EHRS accreditation

- AHCS / RCCP or HCPC registration

Main duties of the job

This post holder will provide leadership and will be responsible for the daily running of the Cardiac Catheterisation service together with the Cath Lab Matron and the Superintendent Radiographer, contributing to the smooth running of a quality service to patients and to undertake managerial responsibility for these services as designated.

The post holder will be responsible for ensure continued service delivery of this specialism and adherence to national, international and local best practice. They are responsible for identifying, advising and introducing service developments and implementing changes to practice in the field based on evidence based research and best practice guidelines.

The post holder, along with the Lead Cardiac Physiologist for education, will be responsible for devising and implementing training plans in the cath lab field, ensuring all Cardiac Physiology staff involved in this service are competent to practice independently and have obtained or are supported to work towards professional accreditation. They will also be responsible for the ongoing continuing professional development (CPD) of competent staff through education, peer review and staff appraisal.

St. George's Hospital is the provider of one of the largest specialised cardiology services in London. The Cardiac Physiology service at St George's performs over 50,000 cardiac investigations and procedures per year including complex PPM/ICD implants and follow-ups, a large EP service performing VT, AF and SVT ablation, a well-established TAVI program and a long standing PCI service including a 24/7 PPCI service and thriving CTO program.

A 15% recruitment and retention premium (RRP) of the basic pay is currently additionally added to this post's salary on top of Inner London HCA.

Essential

  • clinical experience at Specialist Band 7 or equivalent level .
  • Extensive clinical experience in all invasive techniques in Cardiology including PCI with CTO, TAVI, EP, ICD/CRT.
  • Extensive experience of staff training, supervision and assessment.
  • Experience of budgeting and stock control.

Desirable

  • Experience in cath labs of a tertiary Cardiology unit
