CLINICAL FELLOW IN PAEDIATRIC INFECTIOUS DISEASES(ST4+ EQUIVALENT)6 MONTHSTwo posts are available within the Department of Paediatric Infectious Diseases Unit at St George's Hospital, London. The posts is available for start in September and October for 6-12 months in the first instance. The post-holder will be included in the compliant on-call rota.
The post-holder will be part of a rota covered by paediatric trainees. The post-holder will be responsible for all aspects of patient care under appropriate supervision.
The post would suit an experienced paediatric trainee with interest in infectious diseases.
Main duties of the job
St. George's Hospital is a large multi-speciality facility based in South West London, offering a wide range of adult, paediatric and neonatal services. It is co-located with a medical school - St. George's, University of London. Pinckney is a 15 bedded PID ward, with 11 cubicles including HEPA laminar flow cubicles. The unit provides a specialist inpatient and outpatient service for children with complex infections and immunodeficiency across South London and the old South Thames region. This includes children with HIV, primary immune deficiency, TB, hepatitis, congenital infections and other complex infections. The PID service is also leading an antimicrobial stewardship program as well as a paediatric Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (p-OPAT) service.

About us
There is a long history of academic and clinical infectious diseases services at St. George's Hospital. The joint adult and paediatric infectious diseases (PID) unit opened in 1980 as part of the transfer of services to Tooting. Snow Ward was initially located in St James Wing, and then moved to a purpose built ward, Pinckney Ward, in 1990 as an integral part of the Department of Paediatrics on 5th Floor of Lanesborough Wing. Pinckney is a 15 bedded PID ward, with 11 cubicles including HEPA laminar flow cubicles. The unit provides a specialist inpatient and outpatient service for children with complex infections and immunodeficiency across South London and the old South Thames region. This includes children with HIV, primary immune deficiency, TB, hepatitis and other complex infections.
There are currently 8 Paediatric Infectious Diseases consultants; Dr Katja Doerholt, Professor Paul Heath, Dr Simon Drysdale, Dr Laura Ferreras-Antolin, Dr Amaya Bustinduyi, Dr Kirsty LeDoare, Dr Borbala Zsigmond and Dr Shamez Ladhani. The unit also has a very close collaboration with Evelina London Children's Hospital.
The Paediatric Infectious Diseases Unit (PIDU) works closely with the adult Clinical Infection Unit, Department of Genitourinary Medicine, Department of Medical Microbiology and Virology and the paediatric haematology/oncology team from the Royal Marsden Hospital

The appointed PID Fellow will work alongside two Specialty Trainees (ST4+ Registrars) on Pinckney ward. Of the three current registrars, one is a National Grid trainee in Paediatric Infectious Diseases, one is a PID Fellow and one is usually a General Paediatric registrar from the South Thames paediatric rotation.
The primary role of the appointed PID Fellow is to support the service of paediatric Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (p-OPAT) and the paediatric and neonatal antimicrobial stewardship programme (p-ASP) and to help coordinate the care of inpatients on Pinckney Ward. The post holder will gain Paediatric Infectious Diseases inpatient experience on Pinckney Ward and contribute towards the operational development of the inpatient service. The appointed PID Fellow will gain further PID experience in outpatients through the paediatric ID, immunology, vaccine, HIV and TB clinics.
All junior doctors in the team are encouraged to participate in and learn about research in ongoing studies involve inpatients on Pinckney, giving the postholder opportunity to widen their educational experience.
The postholder will participate in the paediatric Medicine Middle Grade out of hours rota, covering long days during the week.. On-call responsibilities include general paediatrics cover for other paediatric specialities and paediatric A&E.
