Job summary

As an acute surgical ward, we prefer a minimum of 18 months experience within an acute healthcare setting but experienced nurses with an interest in the specialty are encouraged to apply. Main duties of the job
Our General surgery Department provides acute and elective services to St Georges Hospitals and to an extensive tertiary network. Gray ward is a dynamic and high acuity, 32 bedded general surgery ward. Our primary focus is upper GI and colorectal specialties, whilst we also treat urology, T&O, ENT and gynaecology patients. You will be part of the team that looks after patients on arrival from the emergency department and throughout their surgical journey until they are discharged. We have a mixture of short & long stay patients including patients stepped down from ICU who have complex nursing needs. These include early detection of deteriorating patients, specialist drain and stoma care, complex pain and wound management among others! We are also a specialist bariatric centre and care for patients with complex nutritional needs including parenteral nutrition.
The successful candidate must be flexible and on occasion assist in providing cover for other wards. All our nurses are expected to maintain excellent standards in line with the Trust's policies & procedures with support from the senior nursing team. You will be expected to role model and support and encourage student nurses & junior staff as St Georges' is a teaching hospital.
