Job summary
The Macmillan Urology Cancer CNS will provide expert evidence based advice and clinical expertise throughout the Trust. You will provide services to inpatients and outpatients, promoting excellence in nursing care. You will be supported to contribute to the leadership, education, and development of nursing and clinical teams across the Trust.
You need to be:
Enthusiastic and passionate about delivering high quality nursing care for people at all phases of their cancer pathway.
Committed to acting as a clinical resource to colleagues and championing nursing.
Responsible for reflecting on your practice, identifying areas for development, and undertaking training as required for the role.
Responsible for involving patients and their families in the planning and development of the pathways.
An excellent communicator, with well-developed interpersonal skills and committed to collaborative working with other health and social care professionals.

Main duties of the job
- Strive to maintain the highest standard of nursing care to all patients, based upon the principles of individualised patient care.
- Use advanced skills to assess and interpret patient needs, developing and implementing a specialist nurse programme to address needs.
- Demonstrate developed analytical and interpretive skills to consider a range of factors or situations which may impact upon the patient needs and experience. Provide and receive complex and sensitive information with the patient and carer; being sensitive to their needs for courtesy, dignity and privacy and ensuring a friendly environment at all times. Demonstrate empathy, compassion and sensitivity at all time
- To act as the patient's advocate when relevant and informed discussion may lead to choices being made about treatment options.
- To actively provide optimum liaison and co-ordination of care for patients, between hospital and community.
- Work with minimal supervision in all areas within the specialty; assisting and undertaking nursing procedures and treatments as required and in accordance with Trust policies and guidance, and national guidelines.
