Job summary

The Nurse Practitioner in Sexual health will use their specialist knowledge, skills and experience in providing sexual healthcare to undifferentiated patients attending GUM, contraception, termination of pregnancy services, and Outreach Clinics within the sexual health service. They are responsible and accountable for the total episode of care of the patient including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and referral as appropriate using Trust guidance.

They will work in collaboration with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and within Trust policies and guidelines. The Nurse Practitioner in Sexual Health will be a direct provider of higher level nursing practice to patients with sexual health needs. They will also function in a variety of non-provider roles including educator, researcher and consultancy. Responsibilities will include policy and guideline development in line with local and national guidance and participate in relevant audit and governance activities.

In conjunction with the Lead Nurse and other team members, they will contribute to the development of the nursing profession and practice. This will demonstrably reflect the principles of clinical governance, clinical and cost effectiveness as well as Trust and National Policy. To plan, implement and evaluate professional development programmes for all nurses and HCAs within the Integrated Sexual Health Services.

  • RGN and registration with NMC
  • Post registration qualification in contraception, e.g. DFSRH
  • GUM qualification or course in STIs e.g. STIF

Desirable

  • FSRH Registered trainer
  • Nurse Prescribing qualification
  • BSc degree in nursing
  • Master's degree
  • Mentorship/training qualification

Knowledge/Understanding

Essential

  • Advanced knowledge of Contraception and Sexual Health
  • At least 3 years Band 6 Sexual Health experience
  • Experience of working in Nurse Led clinics

Desirable

  • Clinical audit
  • Management training (or willingness to undertake)

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years post registration experience and at least 3 years' experience working in sexual health
