Deputy Matron Labour Ward

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, confident Midwife with proven leadership skills to join Croydon University Hospital in a role supporting the Clinical Midwifery Manager for Labour Ward, Maternity Triage and Obstetric Theatre as a Deputy Matron.

The post-holder will be passionate about their development and aspiring to work towards a Matron role in the future. The post holder will provide strong leadership support to the Clinical Midwifery Manager and will demonstrate expert clinical, leadership, innovative, and analytical skills, providing an exceptional service to staff and colleagues.

Main duties of the job

This Deputy Matron post will focus on the day to day operational management and leadership for the staff and services provided on the Labour Ward, Maternity Triage and Maternity Theatres. The post holder will be expected to maintain clinical expertise, undertaking band 7 duties/support in line with the needs of the service

Demonstrate a working knowledge of Trust Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines.

Demonstrate and work towards improving the standards by implementation of Quality Improvement projects.

Create a positive learning environment for students, ensuring appropriate support for them and liaison with link tutors

Responsible for timely release of duty rotas, considering annual leave entitlement to ensure that safe staffing levels and skill mix are maintained.

Review & update guidelines and processes

Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be an effective team member. Proactive engagement with the wider multi agency team is essential to ensure safe care.
