Service Manager- Radiology

Band 8a

The post holder will be a driven and enthusiastic individual, providing senior operational leadership across Radiology services, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality and efficient services.

Working in close partnership with the Head of Radiology, they will support the achievement of performance, workforce, activity, quality and financial objectives, contributing to the effective management of Radiology services in line with national and local standards. They will have a strong background in operational management either in an acute or community hospital setting, with a thorough understanding of Radiology services.

Main duties of the job

The Service Manager will work closely with administrative, clinical, nursing and multidisciplinary teams to maintain operational resilience and deliver patient-centred, compassionate care. They will support service development and improvement programmes, ensuring robust governance, risk management and reporting arrangements.

The post holder will lead day-to-day operational activity for their areas of responsibility, making timely decisions under pressure and prioritising effectively against tight deadlines. They will contribute to demand and capacity planning through accurate modelling, supporting optimal service configuration and workforce planning using data to monitor trends and inform future staffing needs.

The role includes responsibility for operational and financial performance, managing pay and non-pay budgets, and ensuring compliance with national standards for access, quality and productivity. They will identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, productivity and value for money, and support divisional and Trust-wide improvement initiatives. The post holder will work collaboratively with clerical and clinical leads to achieve DM01 targets, manage patient tracking lists, and maintain patient flow. Flexibility is essential, with the expectation to provide visible leadership, cross-cover and senior operational support across services to ensure continuity, safety and sustained service effectiveness during periods of increased demand or change.

About us

Croydon Health Services provides integrated NHS services to care for people at home, in schools, and health clinics across the borough as well as at Croydon University Hospital, Purley War Memorial Hospital and the new Community Diagnostic Centre in New Addington.

CUH provides more than 100 specialist services and is home to the borough's only Emergency Department and 24/7 maternity services, including a labour ward, midwifery-led birth centre and the Crocus home birthing team.

Purley War Memorial Hospital in the south of the borough offers outpatient care, including diagnostic services, physiotherapy and ophthalmology services run by Moorfields Eye Hospital, alongside an onsite GP surgery.

The New Addington site is based in the south-eastern side of the borough and offers outpatient and GP imaging in x-ray, ultrasound and CT, alongside various respiratory and cardiology outpatient services, alongside an onsite GP surgery.

The Radiology Department is undergoing significant investment in new equipment, with 8 new ultrasound units, a Cone Beam CT dental unit, plain x-ray room and a CT replacement all occurring within 2025/26.
