Job summary
The post holder will be a member of Croydon Health Services Maternity Team and work alongside the Integrated Safeguarding Team (CHSIST). This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to join us as the Named Midwife for Safeguarding.
The post holder will undertake the role as Named Midwife for the Trust in accordance with the role and competencies outlined with 'Working Together' 2023 and the Safeguarding Children and Young People: Roles and Competencies for Healthcare Staff (2019)
This will include holding professional lead responsibility for safeguarding in maternity and operationally managing the maternity safeguarding team.
The post holder will be a highly visible senior midwife, and as such expected to provide specialist knowledge, advice and clinical expertise to all staff in maternity services in all areas of safeguarding including children, young people and adults of concern.
You will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and partner agencies to ensure that pregnant women and their babies who come into contact with services Croydon University Hospital and Croydon Health Services are safeguarded and that their welfare is promoted.
Main duties of the job
Lead the Safeguarding Maternity Services
1. Undertake the statutory roles and responsibilities of the Named Midwife as outlined in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023) and the Safeguarding Children and Young People: Roles and Competencies for Healthcare Staff (2019)
2. To ensure that the Trust's systems and procedures for safeguarding pregnant women and their babies are regularly monitored, evaluated and reviewed to minimise risk in the antenatal period.
3. Work closely with all the members of CHSIST, including named professionals and designated professionals and relevant partner agencies.
4. To provide expert professional advice and support regarding safeguarding to clinical staff and other front line staff, predominantly within maternity services but also across the Trust. This will also include issues relating to children looked after, adult safeguarding and domestic violence.
5. To ensure staff support and advice is readily available and that there is clear guidance as to whom to contact for out of hours.
