Croydon Health Services NHS Trust is looking for a Failsafe Officer to join our Antenatal and Newborn Screening (ANNB) team, helping us deliver safe, high-quality care from the very beginning of life.
In this vital role, you'll work as part of the maternity screening team to support the delivery of six national screening programmes for pregnant women and newborns.
You will play a key role in managing data, monitoring failsafe systems, and ensuring timely follow-ups so no critical steps are missed. From communicating with healthcare professionals to analysing performance data, your work will directly impact the safety and wellbeing of families across Croydon.
We're looking for someone who:
Has strong NHS administration experience and excellent IT skills (especially with Excel and patient record systems like Cerner or BadgerNet).
Is confident working independently and managing sensitive information with accuracy and professionalism.
Has knowledge of antenatal and newborn screening pathways--or a willingness to learn quickly.
Brings excellent organisational and communication skills to a fast-paced, patient-centred environment.

Main duties of the job
Maintain accurate and secure screening databases for all antenatal and newborn screening programmes.
Ensure all patient records and data are recorded, updated, and audited according to national standards and Data Protection policies.
o Monitor failsafe systems to ensure timely screening, follow-up, and results reporting across all six national screening programmes.
o Identify and act on potential breaches, coordinating with relevant teams to prevent delays.
o Collaborate closely with midwives, sonographers, neonatologists, GPs, laboratories, and external stakeholders.
o Respond to queries, abnormal results, and outstanding screenings, escalating to the Screening Coordinators when required.
o Generate reports for KPIs, audits, and annual reviews.
o Present data findings at clinical and audit meetings using tools like Excel and PowerPoint.
o Contact patients when necessary to arrange follow-up appointments or investigations.
o Handle sensitive information with professionalism and compassion.
o Prepare and manage documentation, including pathology results, patient notes, and referrals.
o Assist in investigations of screening incidents and help maintain a safe clinical environment.
o Use systems such as Cerner, BadgerNet, and Viewpoint to track and update screening activities.
