This is a full time permanent post. The post is CT3 equivalent with the appointed candidate supported in completion of all key competencies as set by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Additional support with FRCA exam practice is provided with a strong department teaching programme. The post holder will also participate in teaching a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, medical students and Allied Health professionals in Croydon's High fidelity simulation centre.
Main duties of the job
The CT3 Equivalent post will offer the following:
Access to pre-operative anaesthetic assessment clinics
General anaesthesia with experience of elective and emergency surgery for ASA 1-4 patients,
Paediatric experience for children aged five and over and experience of TIVA
Regional anaesthesia with training in ultrasound guided regional techniques
Obstetric anaesthesia with on call experience in obstetrics including management of ASA 3 parturients
Resuscitation and transfer as part of the medical emergency team and involvement in intra-hospital transfers
Pain with access to pain management clinics and acute pain ward rounds
Intensive Care with three months experience in adult intensive care unit for those trainees with only three months completed at core level
Doctors in these posts will also be allocated named educational supervisors, ability to attend teaching sessions and departmental quality improvement meetings. They will be helped in preparing for the Primary or Final FRCA exam. The SLAP (South London Anaesthetic Primary) course exclusively run at Croydon has to date achieved very high pass rates.
The post holders will also involve provide support for the Simulation Centre with the candidates working with multidisciplinary teams to develop and deliver teaching across the trust. Previous Simulation Fellows have gone on to substantive appointments as well as securing multiple presentations and awards.
