We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 Deputy PACS Manager to join the PACS team within the Department of Radiology at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. The successful candidate will assist the PACS manager in the provision and evolution of all Radiology facing IT systems e.g. Radiology Information System (RIS), Image Exchange Portal (IEP). We have three sites to be supported; Croydon University Hospital (CUH) and two community diagnostics centres at Purley War Memorial Hospital and New Addington.

Croydon University Hospital is a large urban DGH situated in South London, serving the needs of a diverse population of 360,000. Croydon has easy access to both central London and the south coast. It also offers a huge range of social, leisure and shopping venues, with excellent transport links to both Gatwick and Heathrow airports.

The department performs in excess of 300,000 all examinations per annum and has an active Clinical Governance programme. There are currently approximately over 160 WTE Staff in post in the Diagnostic Imaging department. Main duties of the job

To Deputise and support the Radiology PACS Manager

The post holder will assist in managing the effective implementation, delivery and operation of a Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) and Radiology Information System (RIS) to the Trust.

Provide support to system users and ensuring that the system is functioning correctly across all of the Trust sites, and work alongside IT and the various staff members who ensure the delivery and quality of the system.

To provide first line support to system users and take the lead responsibility for staff training (radiology and non-radiology staff) Developing training plans and participating in training programmes.

To deputise for Radiology PACS Manager as the link between Radiology, the Information Technology department, internal and external users, including other PACS Managers within the South West London PACS consortium.

To provide first line support to system users to deal with day-to-day faults and system / operator errors and problems.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the management of the Radiology service through the Senior Management team.

There is no budgetary responsibility; however, the post holder is responsible for ordering specialist equipment, signing timesheets, travel expenses for the team they manage.

Job responsibilities

  • The post holder will work as a Deputy to the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) manger in the Radiology department, providing technical and administrative management and support to Radiologys IT systems as well as problem solving, database maintenance, systems testing and training of staff, both with the Radiology department and from other departments who utilise Radiology Information System (RIS), PACS e.g. Antenatal Department.
  • The post holder will maintain and support existing information systems within Radiology and contribute to the implementation of new systems, upgrades and modifications to the various Radiology IT Systems; RIS, PACS, Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) , Image Exchange Portal (IEP) etc.
  • The post holder will assist with testing of new or updates to Radiology related software, new RIS, PACS versions and also new systems or ways of working which may be implemented to improve data throughput, such as XDS and Cross-Site reporting across the South West London (SWL) PACS consortium.
  • Manage the housekeeping of Radiology IT systems data with the RIS & PACS Team staff and Radiographers in a timely fashion.
  • The post holder will be involved in auditing, fault reporting, troubleshooting and maintenance of the RIS and PACS databases and any sundry databases under the control of Radiology, which have an influence on Radiology IT systems.
  • The post holder will liaise with external vendors and user groups to ensure best use of available technologies and suggest updates to working practises in Imaging.
  • Act as a point of contact with Radiology IT systems equipment suppliers for system upgrades and integrating new modalities to PACS, this role will be supported by the Radiology Management.
  • Be responsible for training and support of the Radiology IT systems radiographers to ensure a consistent standard of working practices across all sites.
  • Aid in development, maintenance and review of policies and standard operating procedures including updating downtime procedures, data administration protocols, operational policy, disaster recovery and the distribution of images to ensure and effective system.
  • Responsible for effective overall management of all digital image transfers
  • Plan for major Radiology IT systems developments across the Trust, assisting the Radiology management team in the strategy, planning and development of business cases for future developments and service improvements.
  • Monitor and continually evaluate the provision of Radiology IT systems to ensure the Trust maximises benefits to patient care, responding to feedback and clinicians concerns for effective service design and delivery.

Essential

  • DCR or BSc in Radiographic Imaging or equivalent and appropriate professional body registration

Desirable

  • Professions Council or equivalent IT/Healthcare experience
  • Diploma or Degree in a Health Sciences or IT related field, or demonstrably work to an equivalent level
  • Prince 2 (or equivalent) Foundation level qualification
  • Recognised management qualification
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years' experience post within an NHS Radiology department.

Desirable

  • Evidence of innovation and achievement in management practice.
  • Evidence of successful operational leadership and effective involvement in change management
  • Evidence of successful involvement in production of clear business cases.

  • Knowledge of PACS and RIS systems e.g. Sectra PACS/Soliton Radiology+
  • Knowledge of Windows operating systems and related MS Office products with the ability to manipulate statistical data using Microsoft Excel or other platforms
  • High level of verbal and written communications skills, including the ability in report writing and responding to complaints.
  • Well-developed analytical skills with ability to present information clearly, concisely and in a variety of formats.
