Gastroenterology Consultant Post: ERCP/EUS
The Department of Gastroenterology at Croydon University Hospital is a strong department looking to expand and continue to deliver excellence for patients of Croydon. The department currently consists of 4 full time consultants and 1 physician with a specialist interest in gastroenterology. This appointment will ensure that department continues to deliver an excellent outpatient, endoscopy and inpatient service for Croydon.

It is expected that the applicants will be experienced in gastroenterology and upper and lower GI endoscopy. They will be expected to participate in the general medical on-call, as well as a regional second on-call GI bleed rota. The successful applicants should have an audit and research portfolio, with an ongoing interest in expanding the portfolio and participation in clinical trial recruitment. They should also demonstrate management responsibilities and a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing inpatient care to approximately 14 GI patients on the Gastroenterology firm.
They will be on-call 1 in 26 for acute medicine.
A linked GIM Consultant provides inpatient care to the GIM patients assigned to the firm. The successful applicant will partake in a ward cover (consultant-of-the-week) rota, spending one week in six covering the ward and referrals (with suspension of usual morning programmed activities).
This post is aimed at Gastroenterologists with a sub-specialist interest in ERCP and EUS in order to widen the breadth of service provision and meet increasing demand.
The post holder will be expected to haveone ERCP and one EUS list per week and may also be allocated a third list to include upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy with mixed diagnostic and therapeutic cases, as well astwo outpatient clinics.
Another area which requires development at the trust is participation in GI clinical trials.

- MB BS or equivalent
- Inclusion in the Specialist Register for Gastroenterology or equivalent and General (Internal) Medicine, or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview.
- Name on Specialist Register on date of taking appointment.
- Full registration with the GMC

- Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)

- Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit. Must have undertaken and completed audit projects.
Training and Experience

- Fully trained in Gastroenterology and or Hepatology, and Upper & Lower GI endoscopy with evidence of JAG accreditation
- At least 2 years' substantive previous NHS experience at SPR level (or equivalent). Evidence of advanced training
