Your role involves operational management of the service delivery under the guidance of the Decontamination Manager. Work closely with operating theatres managers and clinical leads, supporting the Trust in providing crucial surgical care.

Main duties of the job

Dimensions:

  • Lead asset and inventory management between Theatres/ clinical departments, Decontamination Services and supply/purchase teams of re-useable surgical instruments.
  • Ensure that the inventory of surgical instruments is proactively reviewed and managed in accordance with clinical requirements and industry best practice and ensure that the inventory of sets and equipment is accurately reflected in the track and trace system.
  • To operate as a key member of the Decontamination Services team, successfully managing the performance of contracts for goods (including surgical instruments) and services with a range of external service providers.
  • The role involves building positive working relationships between the Decontamination Services team and internal/ external customers and service suppliers to ensure all parties meet their obligations in order to deliver the objectives required from the contract/ SLA.

Key Relationships:

Liaise with Theatres/ clinical departments' staff, Decontamination staff, Procurement, Finance,

Medical Physics, Risk Governance, Infection Prevention and Control staff, Clinical and Senior

Management in other departments/divisions.

Job responsibilities

  • The post holder will manage contracts proactively and highlight anticipated future changes, you will also need to respond quickly to contractor performance issues and escalate where necessary.
  • Assist in investigations associated with any incidents including serious incidents involving surgical instruments or other decontamination related incidents.
  • Ensure that Theatres/ clinical departments and Decontamination Services staff are educated in the correct handling of surgical instruments.
  • Assist with post-market surveillance be they related to Theatres/ clinical departments or Decontamination Services, and be able to articulate issues to users and suppliers succinctly using appropriate technical terms towards resolutions and implement process improvements.
  • Communicate with all grades of Theatres/ clinical departments staff, outpatients and SSD personnel, and to advise them of the current decontamination standards.
  • Communicate complex information between clinicians and equipment suppliers, sometimes acting as a conduit between organisations.
  • Provide feedback to multi-disciplinary staff including senior managers and clinicians.
  • Share information and ideas with Theatres/ clinical departments and Decontamination Services in order to explore fully alternative products and approaches to purchasing.
  • Display good negotiating skills and detail accurately the Trust requirements to buyers and others from the Procurement department who may undertake negotiations on our behalf.
  • Persuasion skills are required in order to engage clinical stakeholders in undertaking trials of alternative products.
  • Write reports to be accurately and concisely presented to senior staff, including Consultant Medical Staff and Executives, the financial and other potential consequences of using or changing particular products.
  • IT based communication to be shared across departments and care groups including trend analyses, instrument tracking and usage data etc.
  • Attend and support meetings with users.
  • Regular meetings with SSD Manager regarding standards, quality, performance etc.
  • Collate/ present data for discussion to stakeholders including clinicians and Decontamination Services staff.
  • To conduct literature searches and assess relevance of scientific papers in order to ensure awareness of latest guidance and practice.
