An exciting opportunity has arisen in Cardiology and we are looking to recruit an experienced and highly motivated Coronary Heart Disease Nurse (CHD) Specialist to join our service in the Croydon Heart Centre.The successful applicant will be involved in the assessment, investigation and treatment of patients in the Croydon Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic (RACPC) service under the supervision of a Consultant interventional Cardiologist.The applicant will be required to identify, assess and plan the care of patients with suspected symptomatic coronary heart disease in the Emergency department, acute medical unit and other speciality wards on a regular basis. The post holder will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills with the clinicians to expedite the treatment for patients who are high-risk acute coronary syndrome who require admission.The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a high knowledge relating to cardiology. They will be expected to work within the Multidisciplinary team as an autonomous practitioner. They will be involved in the development of policies and participate in audits, clinical governance and research.

Main duties of the job

Some of the main duties of this role will be to:

  1. Assess, investigate and treat patients in the Croydon Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic (RACPC) service, working beside and under the supervision of a consultant Interventional Cardiologist, using locally agreed protocols in dedicated clinics.
  2. Promptly identify, assess, and plan / implement / evaluate care for patients with suspected symptomatic coronary heart disease in the Emergency Department, AMU and speciality wards, on a daily basis. This includes urgent / emergency liaison with clinicians to expedite care of patients with high-risk ACS e.g. STEMI.
  3. Co-ordinate the safe and prompt transfer of CHD inpatients between the Emergency Department, Cardiology Zone, Cath Lab and other wards on a daily basis, through clear communication and team working with relevant staff.

Education and Qualification

Essential

  • NMC registered general nurse
  • Validated post graduate qualification in Hear failure/cardiac care
  • Advance physical assessment or willing to undertake the course
  • Non-medical prescriber oer willingness to undertake the course

Desirable

  • Masters degree or proven experience at working at degree level

Knowledge and understanding

Essential

  • Knowledge of cardiac and management of heart failure
  • Good understanding of the NICE guidelines and relevant quality standards and outcomes
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role of a heart failure nurse

Experience

  • Proven experience in managing patients with cardiac concitions e.g. heart failure, cardiac conditions

  • Evidence of doing presentations/teaching
