Job summary
This post offers an excellent opportunity for a trainee to further develop their skills in all aspects of cardiology but primarily working towards developing high standard skills in the management of acute and chronic heart failure, including advance and end-stage heart failure; inherited and acquired cardiomyopathy, including autoimmune, restrictive, infiltrative, inflammatory and arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy This will include protected time for dedicated ward rounds, MDT, clinic and academic opportunity.
The post holder will work with an exceptional team of HF Specialist Nurses, and the HF and Cardiomyopathy Lead.
There are close links and collaboration with the inherited cardiac service in St Thomas Hospital and advanced HF in Harefield and Royal Brompton (GSTT) and attendance at appropriate MDT will be encouraged.
The post holder will have a focus on the described subspecialty and will be part of the HF team, however will work alongside the SpR and other cardiology middle-grade doctors, under the supervision of the consultant cardiologists. This will include rotation through the cardiac ward and CCU 1 week in 6 and some cover in other cardiology activities, if necessary.
The successful applicant will need to have obtained the MRCP or equivalent and ideally have experience in heart failure and desirable experience in cardiac muscle disease. The fellow will be encouraged to participate in research for publication and presentation at national and international meetings.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this job are:
- Undertaking the inpatient ward rounds
- Conducting the One Stop Heart Failure Clinic and Cardiomyopathy outpatient clinics.
- Active participation in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings.The post holder is also encouraged to participate to ICC MDT (GSTT) and HF MDT (GSTT) and ad hoc transplant MDT (Harefield). These MDTs are all held virtually.
- Support the Heart Failure Specialist Nurse Integrated Service, to help with troubleshooting/resolving any technical or clinical problems on a regular basis.
- The post holder will be encouraged to be co-investigators of HF trials and be active part of research and academic activities.
- Advice and support for cardiac physiologists in non-invasive testing.
- Managing the care of CCU and cardiac zone patients on a rotating basis (1:6 weeks) supported by three F2/CMT doctors.
- Additional Activities
- Participation in joint cardiothoracic-cardiology MDT meetings (Tuesday 8am)
- Participation in clinical audit
- Involvement in clinical governance activities and meetings
- Involvement in the training of junior medical and other staff
- Cover for colleagues at an appropriate level.
- Participation in regular clinical meetings and teaching rounds
- Full participation in the service and training program of the Directorate
