Job summary
To provide a comprehensive scientific service (analytical and advisory) as a Consultant in the department to medical and other healthcare professionals within Croydon University Hospital and to Croydon Borough Primary Care GPs.
To be registered as a Clinical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and abiding by its rules and regulations and the national guidelines of the profession and United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
Provide support for the Consultant Clinical Scientist Lead and to deputise for this role as required. The role requires the provision of Consultant level support to any area of the department.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the Clinical Biochemistry Blood Sciences Group within South West London Pathology (SWLP) be jointly responsible for setting department policy on service provision and developments while delivering the key corporate objectives of safe and effective clinical care, meeting current access targets that will achieve financial balance.
Work with other senior staff to ensure that the laboratory complies with nationally accepted standards necessary to achieve and maintain laboratory accreditation (ISO 15189:2012) and other regulatory requirements relevant to the Department.
There is no direct responsibility for the management of biomedical staff but would assist with the management of the B7 and B8a Clinical Scientists. There is a need to provide leadership, direction, support and supervision of department projects.
There is no direct budgetary responsibility but there is a need to ensure that resources are used effectively and efficiently.
The post is based at Croydon University Hospital, however the Consultants are encouraged to visit the hub laboratory as and when they choose to do so, so as to retain links and enable good working relationships.
