Job summary

Haematology Nurse

Band 6 - Full-time - 37.5 hrs per week

Croydon Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate Haematology Specialist Nurse.

The primary focus of this role will be to work closely with our Clinical Haematology Team as they continue to develop their approach to the care and management of patients with haematological illnesses, in a multi-professional working environment, promoting safe practice and managing a haematology day care unit.

Crucial to this role is the creation of a positive and supportive environment for both staff and patients within the department, deputising for the CNS in her absence, while managing the day care unit.

Experience in the care of patients with haematological illness is essential and suitable applicants must have a post registration qualification in the safe administration of chemotherapy, or be willing to undertake a qualification in chemotherapy administration.

Understanding of the needs of patients with haematological disease will enable you the confidence to meet the challenges this post requires. There is also a need to support medical day case patients.

You will be able and required to manage your own caseload in the haematology day care unit, so this post is best suited to a motivational, empathetic and enthusiastic Nurse who understands the needs of patients & carers as well as the multidisciplinary team.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, we'd love to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Specialise in haematology nursing, caring for patients with a specific haematologyand other related diseases
  • Support the delivery of ambulatory care within the haematology day unit and home chemotherapy service
  • Facilitate patients being treated as a day case rather than in-patient activity, but will also allow for A&E avoidance and reduce A&E attendance of haematology patients

Additionally the role is divided into five general areas:

  • Clinical practice
  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Consulting
  • Management

This post is designed to develop the post holder in nursing skills within haematology nursing to undertake a specialist nursing role within the future.
