Job summary

The main remit of the post holder will be to lead the imaging cardiology service within the Cardiorespiratory CBU to provide and further develop Cardiology services. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general in-patient and out-patient workload of the team whilst having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff. The post is split between Croydon University Hospital and King's College Hospital.

Cardiology Consultantwith an interest in ImagingCroydon University Hospital is a busy General Hospital, serving the population of Croydon. Most major medical and surgical specialities are represented. The Cardiology department provides on-site cardiac catheterisation, elective and emergency PCI, and we have established a growing complex cardiac devices service providing implantation and follow-up of simple and complex cardiac devices (PPM, ICD, and CRT)Croydon is situated to the south of London and has easy access to both central London and the south coast. It also offers a huge range of social, leisure and shopping options, with transport links to both Gatwick and Heathrow Airport. Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent
  • Inclusion in the specialist register for Cardiology or equivalent within 6 months of CCT at time of interview
  • British Society of Echocardiography accreditation (or European equivalent) for transthoracic echocardiography

Desirable

  • Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
  • British Society of Echocardiography accreditation for transoesophagel echocardiography (or equivalent)

Experience

Essential

  • Comprehensive training on a recognised SpR programme in Cardiology (or equivalent)
  • Comprehensive training in transthoracic, transoesophageal and complex echocardiography
  • Comprehensive training and experience in independently performing and reporting stress echocardiography

Desirable

  • Evidence of research in relevant specialty
  • Experience in other cardiac imaging modalities e.g. cardiac CT, MRI
  • Experience in the management of patients with heart failure and/or experience in management of valve disease
