Consultant Clinical Biochemist/Pathology Lead Band 8D
Following the retirement of the current incumbent, applications are invited for a Consultant Clinical Scientist (8D) to be the Pathology Lead and support the Clinical Biochemistry service as part of the South West London Pathology (SWLP) network for Croydon University Hospital
The successful postholder will be expected to work as an autonomous consultant, reporting to the Clinical Director for the Integrated Surgery, Critical Care, and Clinical Support Service (ISCCS) directorate, and through the SWLP network Clinical Biochemistry Lead, to the Clinical Director of SWLP
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a broad general background and significant experience at Consultant Scientist level, who can make a strong contribution to service developments at a time of challenge for Pathology services. You will be expected to participate in all aspects of the service, including duty Biochemist rota, clinical liaison, research and development, teaching, audit, and out of hours working.
The department provides support to the acute hospital and to Croydon ICB GPs. The department has UKAS accrediation (ISO15189:2012)

Main duties of the job
Together with other Consultants within South West London Pathology Network (SWLP,) to be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive highly specialised clinical scientific service in Clinical Biochemistry to Croydon Healthcare , the local health community and other users of the SWLP.
Act as Clinical Lead for CUH Pathology within the SWLP framework with responsibility for the leadership, communication and team working to drive reform, support organisational change and uptake of initiatives that support excellence and ensure representation of CUH objectives and issues
Accountability for quality of the service delivered to the CUH site; this includes:
The development and implementation of policies, procedures and protocols of service
Clinical governance
Accreditation and quality assurance
Dealing with any issues arising where these impact upon clinical practice in other clinical areas
Provide a Consultant clinical advisory and analytical service giving expert analytical, interpretative and clinical advice on biochemical testing to medical, nursing and other staff within Croydon University Hospital, to primary care and to other users of the service.
Identify examples of National and International best practice and to ensure that SWLP partner hospitals benefit from relevant innovations in healthcare
