Job summary

The post holder will be part of the clinical support team in the Ambulatory Hub (ASH) within the Emergency Surgical Centre.

The Ambulatory Surgical Hub consists of 16 bays for patients both inpatient and day cases. The Emergency Surgical Hub consists of 4 operating theatres, 2 anaesthetics rooms and a recovery room plus the ASH.

Main duties of the job

Ambulatory Surgical Hub Orderly Band 2

  • Carry out duties at the discretion of the Sister/charge Nurse.
  • Transfer patients within the unit and to other departments within the Trust, ensuring their safety and dignity is maintained.
  • Assisting in the positioning of patients
  • Assist in organisational arrangements to enable the fast flow of patients through the ward/department
  • Stock up linen and scrubs daily in storage area and changing rooms
  • Check Oxygen cylinder levels daily
  • Collect Pharmacy orders and supplies as necessary
  • Collect and transport Blood and blood products as required
  • Transportation and delivery of specimens, urgent & routine
  • Collect and delivery of equipment and operating sets
  • Cleaning and preparation of theatre trolleys and beds within ASH and ESC as a whole.
  • Help to clean theatre & Anaesthetic room's floors as required.
  • Ensure infection control measures is adhered to by cleaning and inspecting areas
  • Receiving and sorting stores and assisting in the maintenance of adequate stock levels.
  • Ensure any defects in equipment are immediately bought to the attention of the nurse in charge.
  • Check patient food fridge and order daily, collect and put away.
  • Orientation, training and continual support of new staff.
  • Use initiative when dealing with issues
  • Communicate factual information to patients using reassurance, tact and sensitivity
  • Behave in a kind, considerate and professional manner to patients, visitors and staff
