Cardiology Assistant Practitioner (Cardiographer) Band 3

Applications are invited for 3 highly motivated individuals to join the Cardiology team as a Cardiology Assistant Practitioner (Cardiographer) working at both Croydon University Hospital and Purley War Memorial which are part of Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. This is a very busy and demanding role and the successful candidate should have previous experience of working in a Cardiology department/ ward.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the successful candidate will be to perform ECG's, fit ambulatory ECG, Event and BP monitors and to support the Cardiac Physiologists in their daily clinical work as well as performing some clerical and office duties.

The main Cardiology Department is based in the Croydon Heart Centre at Croydon University Hospital along with a Cardiac Catheter Suite and Daycare Unit. Cardiology tests are also provided at Purley War Memorial Hospital and this post will involve working over both sites on a rotational basis. We provide a comprehensive range of non-invasive procedures that include: ECG's, Ambulatory monitoring (ECG, Event and BP), Technician Led Exercise Tests, Adult Transoesophageal Echocardiography, Adult and Paediatric Transthoracic Echocardiography (including contrast, bubble studies and stress echo), There are also specialist Heart Failure, Valve and Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinics.

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE pass in English Language and Maths or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support

Desirable

  • Associate membership of the Society for Cardiological Science and Technology (SCST)
  • Certificate or Diploma in Electrocardiography or equivalent experience
  • Intermediate Life Support

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of performing electrocardiography both adult and paediatric
  • Experience of Ambulatory ECG and BP fitting and analysis

Desirable

  • Experience of ECG event monitoring and analysis
  • Experience assisting during elective AF Cardioversions
  • Experience in assisting with exercise tolerance testing (patient preparation and recording)

Knowledge and Understanding

Essential

  • Sound knowledge of the theory and practice of electrocardiography recording
  • Sound knowledge of ECG interpretation
  • Sound knowledge of the theory and practice of Ambulatory ECG and BP recording and analysis

Desirable

  • Willing and capable of undertaking training

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Good interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team in a Cardiology Department/ ward environment
  • Good organisational skills
  • Flexible in working practice
  • Ability to provide patients with an environment that supports privacy and dignity
  • Good telephone manner

Desirable

  • Experience of Cardiology database Philips CVIS
  • Experience of using an Electronic Patient Record e.g. Cerner Millenium
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to deal with distressed patients and respond sensitively to enquiries both face to face and on the telephone
