Job summary
Croydon Health Services Trust provides a broad range of elective and emergency services to a population of almost 400,000 across the borough of Croydon and delivered across Croydon University Hospital (450-bed acute hospital) and Purley War Memorial Hospital (outpatients).
The department wishes to appoint a Locum Consultant in Colorectal and General Surgery with an interest in benign colorectal disease and abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR). This 10 PA post has been developed in response to increasing demand in benign colorectal and complex hernia workload. This post is not initially intended to include cancer resection surgery. Experience in advanced AWR techniques and MDT working is essential. A research background and experience in management of complex abdominal wall hernias is desirable.
Applicants should either already be on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (GMC), or within six months of eligibility to be included, and hold a license to practice. Please see the attached job description and person specification for more information.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of General Surgery and Colorectal surgical patients admitted under her/his care and on call on a 1-in-10 rota based at the Croydon University Hospital site. This is a substantive consultant post with 10 programmed activities (PA). The role will focus upon both the provision of care for emergency general surgery patients and provision of elective services in abdominal wall reconstruction and benign colorectal disease. Operating lists may be undertaken jointly with consultant colleagues initially.

The General Surgery Department comprises of 10 Consultants and 15 registrars with a full SHO and foundation staff rota.
