Job summary

General Responsibilities

The duties under Consultant supervision include the following -

  1. Clerking patients in in-patient and out-patient setting
  2. Basic skills such as phlebotomy, cannulation, ECG and ABG
  3. Performing gynaecological examination (taught if required)
  4. Take part in ward rounds on the gynaecology wards
  5. Assist in operating theatre for minor and major procedures
  6. Taking part in regular gynaecology Clinics with multidisciplinary team
  7. Manage ward referrals and maintain a local database
  8. Engage in audit activities, either existing or candidates own ideas.
  9. Engage in educational activities by attending and teaching.
  10. Learn new skills in gynaecology and pursue personal interests.

The list is no exhaustive and the PA may be asked to do additional tasks.

Teaching and Training Responsibilities

  1. The clinician is involved in teaching of junior staff, nurses and medical students.
  2. They will present cases at multidisciplinary meetings
  3. There are facilities available for research.

  • Croydon University Hospital (formerly Mayday University Hospital)
  • Purley War Memorial Hospital
  • The Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre in Thornton Heath
  • A minor injuries unit in New Addington

The Trust was formed on 1st August 2010 through the integration of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust.

  • PG Dip in Physician Associate Studies from a UK training programme
  • Current and valid certification or re-certification by the Physician Associate National Examination (OR: if US trained, Current and valid certification with the National Commission on Certification for Physician Associates (NCCPA)
  • Registration with the UK Managed Voluntary Registry for physician Associates as soon as it is in place ? Member of the UKAPA
