Job summary

Duties of the Trust Doctor (CT1) include preparing patients for theatre and attendance atoperating sessions, out-patient clinics and pre assessment clinics. There is a firm basedstructure and required attendances at clinics and operating lists.There daily ward rounds and MDTs across the specialties.There is a Trust wide electronic system for patient management as well as ready access toPACS which is hugely helpful for managing the trauma workload. Full IT training is delivered.You are asked to take part in departmental audit and research. There is a supportive networkto improve your portfolio if you wish to apply to Core Surgery and the Trust aims to help youdeliver your goals for learning and development. There is a potential to access a PostGraduate Certificate in Education via St Georges Medical School if the post holder wishes toengage with this.Ms Vig is the Core and Higher TPD for South London and South West London as well asConsultants within the department being members of the Surgical Training Committee.You will have access to the Basic Orthopaedic and Trauma Course as well as the PlasteringCourse (No charge). Croydon also hosts the Basic Surgical Skills Course and ATLS.There is an internal Leadership and Management Course as well as Interview preparationCourses. You are welcome to attend.

Job responsibilities

  1. To provide Surgery Department service and this includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the department.

  1. Responsible for covering colleagues periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.

  1. Clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.

  1. Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.

  1. Responsible for out-patient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed by Croydon Health Services

  1. To contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trusts R&D framework.

  1. To take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the Trusts Objectives. This may include assisting with discussions regarding service plans and developments with both internal and external agencies.

  1. To conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for the Department.

  1. To exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty. This will include fostering and developing projects focused towards these ends and ensuring that the momentum of post qualification professional education and other appropriate training is maintained.

  1. To work in conjunction with clinical and professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. This may include involvement in the appraisal process for junior colleagues.

  1. To be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene. To undertake annual training/updates in infection prevention and control.
