Job summary

The post is an integral part of multidisciplinary team, responsible for specialised nursing skills and leadership competencies promoting the effective and economical use of available resources and facilitates delivery of a budgetary balance.

The job holder is accountable for own actions without direct supervision and accountable for the actions of unqualified members of staff.

The post holder will be encouraged to organise own time and that of junior staff and learners, and participating in teaching and education programmes for staff and patients.

The post holder should be competent at carrying out consultations face to face or remotely via video or telephone technology.

You will report to the Clinical Governance Manager and work with them to audit and develop the nurse-led follow-up services.

Main duties of the job

The Dermatology Specialist Nurse will be able to provide high standards of care in various Nurse-led follow-up clinics including some or all of the following:

  • Phototherapy (narrowband UVB/UVA)
  • Iontophoresis
  • Advanced Wound clinic
  • Nurse Led Follow ups
  • Systemic monitoring Clinics (Roaccutane/Acne)
  • Biologic assessment and management
  • Patch Testing
  • Nurse led Minor surgery clinics
  • Patient education and health promotion
  • Telederm Clinics
  • Skin cancer screening
  • Therapeutic drug management and monitoring clinic
  • Nurse liaison
  • Link Nurse

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR TRAINING

Essential

  • Registered Nurse and ability to practice independently
  • Recognised dermatology qualification/CPD
  • Formal MSc study in advanced practice or Dermatology MSc

Desirable

  • Independent prescribing qualification

Knowledge and understanding

Essential

  • Experience and ability to team lead and role model
  • Managing resources and time management
  • Clinical developments and workforce planning

Desirable

  • Ability to influence development and improvement of practice, patient care and service delivery.

Experience and skills

Essential

  • Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care
  • Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
  • Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice. (E )
  • Demonstrates specialist expertise underpinned by theory acquired through CPD
  • Competence in expanded clinical practice associated with the role
