Specialist Medicines Information Pharmacy Technician - Band 6

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Croydon Health Services (CHS) for a Specialist Medicines Information (MI) Pharmacy Technician who is forward thinking; enthusiastic and motivated, to join our established experienced and dedicated MI team.

The successful applicants will possess good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills. You will be supporting our patient focused pharmacy service, liaising with colleagues in both primary and secondary care settings and promoting new and innovative ways of working to achieve better outcomes for patients, promoting safe administration of medicines and reducing recurring long term admissions.

As well as being an integral member of the main pharmacy, you will also support in the management and running of Medicines Information. You will also be required to provide a deputy lead role to assist in the continuous training and development of junior staff and development of services.

As education and development is one of our core values for staff, you will be given full training and development in order to fulfil the duties of this post.

Applicants must hold NVQ Level 3 diploma in Pharmacy Service skills (QCF) or equivalent and must be registered with the GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council). Substantial hospital pharmacy experience is essential for this post and Accredited Checking qualification (ACPT) or equivalent.

Main duties of the job

  1. Provide technical support for the maintenance and development of a safe and efficient Medicines Information Service. This includes enquiry answering, database searching and maintenance / development of systems.
  2. Provide training and supervision to all technicians, and undergraduate pharmacists assigned to Medicines Information. Assist in the provision of Medicines Information training to pre-registration and other pharmacists, PTPT and other staff in Medicines Information.
  3. Co-ordinate formulary related activities including supporting clinical teams with new drug application to facilitate a single system approach across SWL
  4. Promote the safe, effective and economic use of medicines
  5. Build and maintain proactive and effective relationships with all stakeholders including ICS colleagues and region wide colleagues.
