EPR Senior Analyst (Reporting)

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for:

Leading in the analysis of requirements, design of reporting solutions, and development of new datasets, reports and data visualisation tools in the Epic information and technology environment

Analysing and designing solutions for problems or issues with reports and dashboards within the Epic data warehouse environments and providing support for informatics solutions related to the new Epic EPR;

Using their specialist knowledge of health informatics and nHS data models, derived from knowledge of theory, training, and/or extensive experience to suggest solutions to problems or business requirements and work these through from design to implementation as prat of the Epic EPR deployment;

Actively monitoring the systems on a regular basis for user or system errors or problems, working with the Band 6 Support Analyst;

Participating in regular process review, feedback and system development meetings both within the ITCS team and with external stakeholders;

Being a link person between the ITCS team, system users and other stakeholders and to help manage and prioritise calls and requests to the team;

Helping to direct careful planning for systems implementation and the roll-out process, taking into account all dependent variables and liaise with all affected teams, staff and departments;

Being a member of the multi-disciplinary configuration team, ensuring a consistent approach to the configuration and integration between the Epic modules and across the wider team;

Managing, co-ordinating and leading the configuration requirements and ensure build is delivered in a timely way;

Engaging in team based development process designed around Agile methodologies to allow the service to respond quickly to customer needs for information and information products;

Collaborating in a formal system of change management to enable safe transition of information products and systems from design to operation;

Analysing and suggest ways to improve current workflows and working practices;

Working with the appropriate stakeholders to analyse, negotiate and facilitate agreement for change to high-impact or critical workflows and current working practices, whilst managing expectations and resolving conflicts when necessary;

Assisting with preparation for the testing and upgrading of the system to ensure it is safe, usable, secure and robust;

Work with the clinical systems teams to support complex Epic, and other, software demonstrations and present information on the teams progress to the appropriate forums, adapted in a way in which makes it easy for the audience to understand;

Assess and interpret organisational and external policy and the impact on reporting solutions, systems and processes to provide expert advice on the response to changing processes and priorities. Definition of information, operational and security policies within the team and occasionally with impact for the wider organisation

To assist in the delivery of the Trusts EPR system.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

• Degree level qualification or equivalent experience in an informatics-related subject/ role
• Post qualification Masters degree, or significant experience in Healthcare Informatics equivalent to Masters degree level
• Specialist training on Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
• Specialist training on data visualisation tools e.g. Microsoft PowerBI, Qlikview
• Evidence of configuration expertise used in an Enterprise solution
• Epic Cogito certification in one or more data models

Desirable

• ISEB Business Analysis Diploma
• PRINCE2 (Foundation/ Practitioner
• Specialist training database administration techniques, including either Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server
• Specialist training in a programming language

Experience

Essential

• Proven experience of working in an acute hospital, community provider, CCG or other healthcare-related organisation
• Substantial experience in an informatics or analytics role
• Healthcare system design and configuration experience.
• Significant experience of data requirement gathering and report specification documentation
• Demonstrable experience of working to plans and timescales
• Experience of writing relational and multi-dimensional SQL queries
• Substantial experience of designing and developing reporting and analytical outputs using appropriate enterprise BI tools (Business Objects, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, PowerView, Tableau, QlikView, PowerBI etc)
• Experience of developing complex datasets and information systems to meet with complex and changing customer requirements
• Experience of report testing tools and methodologies
• Experience of leading projects, including use of project plans and identifying risks
• Experience of supporting a wide range of stakeholders to effectively use and build their knowledge of reporting tools and analytical outputs

Desirable

• Experience working with NHS acute or community datasets
• Experience of working in a support analyst role in an NHS environment
• Experience of writing complex SQL stored procedures
• Experience documenting user guidance / technical documentation for software solutions
• Experience of supervising staff and/or project teams

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

• Detailed knowledge and understanding of Health Informatics - including healthcare datasets, data quality, performance monitoring, national strategic control mechanisms for data management, definitional guidance and data protection
• Excellent understanding of the principles of analysis, benchmarking and highly developed modelling and data manipulation
• Knowledge of report development software and techniques
• Knowledge of data-driven improvement methodologies
• Highly advanced written and verbal communication skills, including good presentation skills evident in the use of graphics and design of reports
• Proven ability to present a range of highly technical and highly complex information clearly and concisely in potentially contentious situations.
• Strong sense of quality and able to lead by example.
• Able to prioritise workloads and resource them in response to changing demands and requirements
• Ability to manage multiple streams of work simultaneously
• Ability to plan ahead, prioritise and manage change in a formally controlled yet, pragmatic fashion
• Enthusiasm, commitment, self- motivation and a willingness to work flexibly
• Working knowledge of the Microsoft SQL Server product including its service and their use
• Comprehensive understanding of information governance rules relating to health data

• Understanding of the latest developments in NHS statutory and mandatory reporting
• Good understanding of NHS information and performance monitoring processes and systems
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Understanding of NHS administrative processes and systems
• Knowledge of Epic Cogito suite of tools, including Caboodle, Clarity, Radar, Reporting Workbench, and Slicer Dicer
