Main duties of the job
You will work autonomously within your Scope of Professional Practice (NMC / HCPC) to assess, diagnose, and treat both paediatric and adult patients. Based on clinical evaluation, you will determine whether to discharge them or refer them to specialist teams, ensuring expert care that aligns with evidence-based practice, national and departmental guidelines, and clinical protocols.
The key responsibilities of this role include

Conducting comprehensive patient assessments, including history-taking and physical examinations

Initiating and interpreting appropriate investigations to support clinical decision-making

Developing and implementing treatment plans for a wide range of urgent and emergency conditions

Making independent decisions on patient management, including discharge or specialist referrals

Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient care

Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions

Supporting the Senior Clinical Practitioner and ED Matrons in improving patient pathways and aligning care with national targets.
The UTC provides a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week service, requiring staff to work a mixture of the following shifts 08:00-18:00, 10:00-20:00, 12:00-22:00, 14:00-00:00, night shift (21:00-07:00).
