Job summary

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) require a dynamic and forward-thinking Specialty Doctor to join the dermatology teams at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Woolwich (QEH) site. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a well-established DGH dermatology department.

The post is based predominantly (full time and less than full time) at the QEH site and Queen Mary Hospital Sidcup. This post will include general adult, paediatrics dermatology clinics and skin cancer clinics. The post also includes inpatient review of acute dermatology referrals.

The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust was created in 2013 from a merger of the QEH with University Hospital Lewisham (UHL), as part of a reconfiguration of services in South East London recommended by the Health Secretary. The hospitals cover the London Boroughs of Lewisham, Greenwich and parts of Bexley, with a combined population of more than 500,000 people.

Main duties of the job

The QEH Dermatology department is a busy but friendly and supportive environment. The team are dedicated to providing the highest standards of patient care. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of 9 Consultants within the Dermatology service, as well as 2.0 Specialty doctors, clinical fellow and 9 Clinical Nurse Specialists as wellas a developed admin team.

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

To provide a service for the management of acute Dermatological Emergencies (ward referral).

To provide support for inpatients requiring Dermatology review.

To undertake skin surgery with appropriate supervision.

To provide continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge

Other duties and responsibilities:

Clinical:

The post holder will, together with colleagues, be responsible for the provision of services to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust to include:

(a) Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.

(b) Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.

Teaching and training:

The post holder is expected to contribute to the teaching and training programme at QEH.

Specifically, this post encompasses

  • Support for Junior colleagues, Nursing staff and GP colleagues in the department.
  • The post holder will be expected to attend regional and national Dermatology meetings (e.g Royal Society of Medicine, St Johns Society) and to present cases/research in such forums

Research/ audit

The successful candidate will also take part in research and audit at QEH where there will also be opportunities to take part in clinical research trials.

Clinical governance:

All medical and dental staff are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, quality improvement, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management. They will be expected to produce evidence of their contribution in these areas as part of their annual appraisal.
