Job summary
We are excited an opportunity has arisen within our Paediatric assessment Unit. This is a busy and fast paced turn over of patients who we see guided by our pathways.
We receive patients that have been referred from the Emergency Department, Urgent Care Services, Children community services and Hospital at Home, Community Midwives and GP's.
This position will allow you to take charge of a team, co-ordinate patients and provide a high standard of care. You will work closely with the Hippo team, including nurses, nurse associates, doctors, consultants and physician associates.
Main duties of the job

- Taking Charge
- Co-Ordinate Care/ plans
- Observations
- Carry out investigation requests.
- Canulation/ phlebotomy requests
- Liaise with the wider teams including community teams.
- Attend local huddles.
- Mentor and support Junior Staff

You will be responsible for a department of patients, individualising nursing care, assessing and planning, implementing a care plan. while doing so you will be expected support and promote the involvements of parents and carers.
You will be expected to lead a team and delegate workload but also work alongside the Ward Manager/Matron. You will be expected to arrange adequate staff cover in the event of sickness and in the ward manager's absence.
You will be involved in local audits and able to apply change due to the outcomes and findings of the audit. Additionally will share learning with the team and provide good mentorship to junior staff.

- RSCN or RN Child
- PILS provider
- Functioning at minimum diploma level
- Mentorship level 5/6 or applied for.
- High Dependency module or equivalent level of experience.
Desirable
- Functioning at degree level.
- APLS/EPLS

- Good written & verbal communication skills.
- Ability to document legibly and precisely
- Significant post registration experience at band 5 or above.
- Interest & experience in teaching.
- Acute Children's ward experience.
Desirable
- Significant experience of working with children and family.
- Competent in IV drug administration.
- Experience in managing the ward on a regular basis.
