Community Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Assistant

Job summary

The post holder will work alongside and be supported by qualified Nurses, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists plus our current Band 4 staff in a support role, delivering orthopaedic prehabilitation and rehabilitation programmes to a range of adults, primarily older adults. The aim is for patients to maximise their independence.

Main duties of the job

  • This may involve group work or working on a 1:1 basis.

    Patients have a variety of medical conditions requiring a flexible approach to treatmentto ensure individualised care.

    You willmanage your caseload and refer to qualified staff if required.

    Basic IT skills are required as you will be required to provide some support for our administrator and need to order equipment for patients using IT systems

Job description

Job responsibilities

To participate in the development of the Multidisciplinary Community Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Service that continues to meet the client group's needs and responds to Government initiatives.

To work effectively as a team member in providing andfacilitating a high standard of rehabilitative support within the rehabilitation setting.

To assist in individual and group assessments/treatments/activities, including hydrotherapy, or to treat patients on a 1:1 basis or in a group situation, as directed by the therapists.

To independently carry out treatment sessions, working towards joint prehabilitation and rehabilitation goals as directed by the Multidisciplinary Team members, and to report back orally, and in the appropriate written format as directed.

To hold own caseload as delegated by the team.

Undertake manual handling and therapeutic handling techniques with patients both single handed and as part of a team.

To perform environmental assessment on access visits where required.

To supply patients with appropriate, safe, walking aids and to instruct patients in the use of this equipment when requested by team members.

To deliver and install simple aids and equipment in the patients home as requested by therapy staff and to instruct patients and carer in the use of this equipment, as appropriate.

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent training
  • GCSE English & Maths or equivalent
  • Good written & spoken English

Desirable

  • To have completed an approved in-service training course recently or evidence of other recent study
