Band 3 Paediatric HDU Healthcare Support Worker

Part-time: 16.5 hours per week (0.44 wte)

We have an exciting opportunity available to recruit a Healthcare Support Worker looking for part-time hours to join our HDU team on Tiger Safari Ward. The post holder will be expected to work a mixture of long days or nights.

The Healthcare Support Worker will work as part of the wider health care team in providing high quality, safe and compassionate care to children, young people and their families.

The Healthcare Support Worker will be expected to perform a range of skilled clinical tasks such as providing care to stable tracheostomy patients, stable long-term ventilation patients, provide enteral feeding (nasogastic/gastrostomy/jejunostomy), suctioning, cannulation, venepuncture and report any issues to the Registered Professional

The Healthcare Support Worker will be expected to demonstrate effective communication skills, deliver care that has already been planned by a clinician or a Registered Nurse and be skilled in taking appropriate action to ensure that outcomes are achieved.

You must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Hold a Care Certificate issued by an NHS provider organisation (Care Certificate from NHS England or online training provider is not acceptable)
  • Or have completed an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care in a UK college.

Main duties of the job

The Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) is part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients. Support and supervision is provided by a Registered Professional.

The Healthcare Support Worker carries out a range of patient care tasks and duties to enable the team to provide an effective and efficient service within Acute hospital settings.

To achieve this, the Senior HCSW will:

  • Competently perform the necessary aspects of care for patients
  • Ensure effective delivery of clinical care is provided to patients and that an acceptable standard is maintained
  • Follow Trust policies and provide a safe and person-centred environment for the treatment of patients
  • Participate in personal and practice development activities to maintain standards of care
