Job summary

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is seeking motivated and enthusiastic Specialty Doctors in Anaesthetics to join our forward-thinking, ACSA-accredited department. These newly created posts support the expansion of anaesthetic services for the Lewisham Surgical Centre (South-East London Surgical Centre) - a regional collaboration with Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts.The posts are 10 Programmed Activities with no hot activity or on call commitment, offering a balanced and sustainable working pattern ideal for clinicians seeking to consolidate their skills in elective anaesthesia. Appointees will gain exposure to a diverse caseload including ENT, orthopaedics, general, colorectal, gynaecology, urology, and bariatric surgery, within a supportive environment that values teaching, audit, and professional development.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities

Provision of elective & emergency anaesthesia

Pre-operative assessment of patients

Anaesthetic support to Intensive Care Unit & Emergency Department

Provide general advice to medical colleagues, registrars and other junior grades, nurse specialists, midwives & obstetricians, GPs etc.

Medical Education & Teaching

Participate and contribute to departmental meetings

Provide training where required

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent Initial Assessment of Competence in Anaesthesia Initial Assessment of Competence in Obstetric Anaesthesia

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 4 years (FTE) postgraduate training in the UK (or equivalent training) of which 2 years training must be Anaesthetics

Clinical Audit

Essential

  • Knowledge & evidence of participation in clinical audit

Desirable

  • Evidence of leadership in quality improvement projects

Teaching Experience

Essential

  • Interest in teaching (trainees, undergraduates & allied health professionals)

Desirable

  • Evidence of formal training in teaching and/or Certificate in medical teaching Simulation training
