Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust

Senior Clinical Fellow (CESR) in Emergency Medicine

The closing date is 13 November 2025

Job summary

The post is full-time and is part of the Emergency Department Team. The successful applicants will join the Queen Elizabeth Hospital treating a large range of acutely ill patients with organ failure.

We are advertising post on our CESR rotational programme at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Emergency Department.

The Consultant body contains current FRCEM examiners, ATLS, APLS & ALS instructors and all of whom are level 1 and some level 2 US trained. The evidence speaks for itself we have a proven track record in our long term middle grades successfully becoming consultants via the CESR process with the full support of the department, they would be happy to talk to you about this informally. There will be a specifically designed training and teaching package for all successful applicants and there will be a designated Consultant supervisor for the duration of the rotation.

From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the 24-hour Emergency Department Rota. The rotation is initially offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months after which we would envisage an extension on a mutually agreed basis to a 12-month rolling contract. We would estimate it would take 4 years to complete all the rotations and complete the FRCEM examinations. There is also a capacity to do extra 'bank work' within the ED and our staff are given priority so that we can secure our own trusted staff to ensure no compromise in patient care
