We have an exciting opportunity to join the Pharmacy Clinical Services Team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. Our passion for developing and expanding the scope of MMPT roles has led to the creation of a new Lead Pharmacy Technician post, and we are now recruiting to maintain technician capacity and ensure continuity of care across inpatient services.

Main duties of the job

As a Lead Pharmacy Technician - Medicines Management, you will:

  • Ensure the day-to-day delivery of a high-quality ward-based pharmacy service, covering both clinical and technical aspects.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and line management to pharmacy technicians, assistants, and trainees.
  • Support medicines reconciliation, discharge facilitation, and stock management across inpatient areas.
  • Deputise for the Principal Pharmacy Technician - Clinical Services.
  • Act as an Educational Supervisor and contribute to training and development programmes.
  • Perform final accuracy checks on dispensed items in accordance with accreditation.

The vacancy has arisen following the internal appointment of the current postholder to a newly created Lead MMPT role a reflection of our ongoing commitment to developing and expanding the scope of Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician roles.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality ward-based pharmacy services, supporting medicines reconciliation, discharge facilitation, and stock management across inpatient areas. You will work closely with pharmacists, technicians, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred medicines use.

  • Provide day-to-day ward-based clinical and technical pharmacy services.
  • Support medicines reconciliation, discharge planning, and stock control.
  • Supervise and mentor junior pharmacy technicians and assistants.

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician
  • Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Specialist knowledge of pharmacy procedures/processes
  • HEE LaSE Medicines Optimisation or in-house accreditation
  • Educational supervisor or equivalent

Desirable

  • Other postgraduate qualifications relevant to pharmacy practice, such education & training qualifications

  • Substantial post registration experience working in hospital pharmacy
  • Demonstrable experience and involvement with BTEC training of pre-registration pharmacy technicians.
