Job summary

This role presents an exciting opportunity to join Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

As the EPR Communications and Engagement Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the Trust's largest programme of digitally enabled transformation to date - the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) Acceleration Programme. This programme will transform the way care is delivered, aligning acute and community services and improving integration with health and care partners across south-east London. The successful candidate will bring creativity, strategic thinking and proven expertise in communications and engagement, helping to ensure that colleagues, patients, and partners are informed, engaged and supported throughout this significant organisational change.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be responsible for leading the communications and engagement strategy for the EPR Programme, from initial planning and readiness through to launch and implementation.
  • Working closely with senior managers, the EPR programme team and IT colleagues, they will develop high-quality, accessible content tailored to a wide range of audiences, including staff, clinicians, patients, the public and system partners. They will serve as the primary point of contact for EPR communications and engagement, ensuring that complex and sensitive information is conveyed effectively across various channels, including written content, digital platforms, video, and social media.
  • In addition, the post holder will provide strategic communications support to the Trust's IT department, helping to deliver clear, timely messaging around infrastructure updates, downtime, and related projects.

  • This will involve benchmarking current practices, horizon scanning and learning from other Trusts, as well as commissioning and producing impactful communications materials.
  • The role requires building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring colleagues are engaged and supported through change, and leading activities such as stakeholder engagement, governance reporting, and reference group management.
  • The post holder will work closely with the Creative Team to develop campaigns and assets, manage third-party suppliers, and oversee budget allocations related to communications activity. They will also play a proactive role in media relations, responding to enquiries and promoting the programme externally where appropriate.
  • Central to the role is the ongoing evaluation of communications effectiveness, with a commitment to adapting approaches based on feedback and analytics.
  • Ultimately, the post holder will act as an ambassador for the Trusts digital transformation, ensuring that communications are professional, engaging, and aligned to the Trusts values of respect, compassion, accountability, listening, and collaboration.

  • Good standard of education to masters degree level or equivalent
  • GCSE English language or equivalent
  • Postgraduate training in communications/ journalism/engagement or relevant experience

  • Project management of implementation of complex change
  • Devising, implementing, and evaluating effective communications and engagement strategies and the ability to identify the right channel for a particular audience

  • Writing/editing content for different audiences
  • Commissioning design and print
  • Use of websites and other digital channels to effectively communicate patient or consumer information

  • Experience of providing expert advice on communication approaches to senior managers
  • Experience of working with highly complex and/or contentious information - able to analyse, edit and present this information for various internal and external audiences and publications
