Cardiology Admissions Co-ordinator

Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for a range of administrative functions for the Cardiology service within the Specialist Medicine directorate including organising appointments, liaising with the clinical teams, dealing with queries from patients/relatives, carers, GP's and liaising with consultants, clinical nurse specialists and Service Managers. The post holder must have the ability to manage and prioritise their workload whilst working under pressure and be able to communicate with staff at all levels.

Main duties of the job

  • Co-ordinating and being responsible for a caseload of patients on the waiting list for cardiology procedures
  • Managing own workload
  • Book patient's pre-assessments for pacing and angio procedures, in-line with the patient's needs, or as directed by medical/clinical staff guidance
  • To undertake validation of the waiting list
  • Schedule elective admissions, contacting the patients, offering admission date
  • Answering telephone enquiries, dealing with recording and passing on messages appropriately

Job responsibilities

  • Dealing sympathetically with anxious, upset and nervous patients
  • Answering telephone enquiries, dealing with recording and passing on messages appropriately.
  • Providing a primary point of contact between the multi-disciplinary team and tier colleagues, patients and relatives.
  • Schedule elective admissions, contacting the patients, offering admission date.
  • To use the 18-week Referral to Treatment guidance to manage the elective patient journey and develop expert knowledge of RTT
  • To liaise with clinicians to ensure the effective organisation and scheduling of clinic lists
  • To attend weekly PTL meetings with the Service Manager to ensure that the clinic lists are being utilised
  • To monitor and record clinicians annual leave, rearrange clinic lists and liaise with the Service Manager to arrange cover when necessary
  • To be responsible for anticipating and escalating any potential breaches, in good time, to the Service Manager
  • To undertake validation of the waiting list
