Chestnut Ward: (Medical Admissions Unit (MAU))

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Ward Manager to join the senior nursing team in our 46-bedded medical acute admissions unit, which also includes six fit-to-sit chairs.

The busy acute ward consists of four monitored beds designated for patients who are acutely unwell and require continuous monitoring. The successful candidate will serve as one of two band 7 ward managers in this ward. The Ward Manager plays a fundamental role in delivering high standards of nursing care, creating a supportive environment for patient well-being, and contributing to effective budget management.

They will hold a key leadership and management role at a senior level, providing specialist skills and knowledge to support the organisation and delivery of care for patients within Acute Medicine. This will incorporate the provision of care to patients and their families in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within the area, ensuring that Trust values and standards of care are upheld.

A senior matron, a matron, and the senior nursing team will provide support to the post holder.

Main duties of the job

In collaboration with the Matron, the Ward Manager will be responsible for their clinical setting, which includes providing effective leadership, establishing, monitoring, and maintaining professional standards, fostering collaborative work, managing complaints, and guiding the nursing contributions to clinical governance at the ward level.

S/he will be visible and accessible in the clinical area for patients, relatives and staff.

Lead by example and serve as a positive role model for all staff, taking responsibility for your own professional development.

Provide leadership that prioritises patient-focused care.

Offer clinical leadership and manage staff effectively to ensure the highest professional standards are met through staff development and individual performance appraisals and reviews. Serve as a role model for care standards and expected behaviours by actively participating in direct patient care.

Maintain personal standards of conduct and behaviour that align with the standards and requirements of the Trust and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Actively contribute to, and support agreed developments within the Directorate.
