This is your opportunity to be part of a theatres surgical centre team to truly shape and contribute to the future of healthcare in South East London by taking on this crucial role as a Recovery Practitioner in the forthcoming Lewisham Surgical Centre (LSC) for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT).

The LSC, currently under construction at the heart of University Hospital Lewisham, is set to be a cutting edge facility, serving all of south east London and running a high volume of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) day case procedures.

ENT procedures currently have one of the largest waiting lists of any specialty in the country. The centre would be 12 all days extended lists as two theatres.

So who are we looking for?

The successful applicant will have solid ENT clinical expertise and you will thrive on working in such a fast-paced environment - so if you feel that this is a core part of your skillset but you don't quite have expert-level ENT experience, we would encourage you to apply.

If successful, you will be part of a team of clinical specialists and work with other members of TeamLGT, like consultants and our external partners, to work in this new service at Lewisham Surgical Centre.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing a high standard of evidence-based care to patients throughout their operative journey, within the guidelines of the Trust, and the NMC.

The post holder will provide support and guidance to the theatre team within the clinical area, and will assist with the training and development of junior staff and students.

The post holder will take responsibility for running operating lists in conjunction with and in the absence of a Senior Staff Nurse.

Ensures all Trust/Directorate policies and procedures including EC Directives, Health and Safety at work, COSHH and Moving and Handling policies are adhered to.

Ensures all equipment and supplies in the clinical area are maintained and checked to enable practitioners to deliver care efficiently and safely.

Research and development, education and training

Assists in providing and maintaining an environment conducive to learning and development to maximise the potential of staff.

  • Assists in creating and maintaining, in conjunction with Senior Theatre Practitioners and the Theatre & Recovery Co-ordinator, systems which provide effective Clinical Supervision and Practice Supervision for all staff members to include learners allocated to the clinical area.

  • Contributes to ensuring that staff in the clinical area are up-to-date with new developments, and able to access appropriate continuing education. Encourages the exchange of information, ideas and experiences.

Takes responsibility for own professional development in conjunction with the Theatre & Recovery Co-ordinator and Practice Development Facilitator.
