Job summary

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust has a great opportunity for a Maternity Ward Housekeeper to join our Multi-Professional Team in its deliverance of high quality care to our women/birthing people and their families.

The Maternity Ward is a large ward specializing in the care of mothers/ birthing people bot ante and postnatally. We are seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic individual to the role of Housekeeper. This role is integral to developing environmental standards for the care of patients. You will be pivotal in supporting the senior ward sister in the management of the environment and focus on reaching standards that are important aspects of care, such as cleanliness, catering services and maintenance of a safe, comfortable environment. You would be working alongside other staff to maintain the high standards on the ward.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed for liaising with ward staff, patients and relatives.

Main duties of the job

As housekeeper you will be expected to, but not limited to; ensuring beds are kept clean and washed in addition to preparing bed areas for meals and ensure that lockers and bed tables are clean with supplies of hand wipes and toiletries as necessary. You will ensure the ward is kept clean and tidy at all times, especially by ensuring that corridors, entrance and exits are free from obstruction.

Job responsibilities

As housekeeper you will be expected to, but not limited to; ensuring beds are kept clean and washed in addition to preparing bed areas for meals and ensure that lockers and bed tables are clean with supplies of hand wipes and toiletries as necessary. You will ensure the ward is kept clean and tidy at all times, especially by ensuring that corridors, entrance and exits are free from obstruction.

You will ensure that all materials are stored in a manner that allows for full and thorough cleaning around and underneath them.

You will be required to clean clinical equipment and machines in line with infection control guidelines, manufacturers instructions and local equipment cleaning schedule and collect items from other departments as required.

You will be required to report and label any faulty equipment that needs repair and remove item from service in addition to removing, labelling and arranging disposal of equipment and furnishings that are faulty/broken and cannot be repaired, under the instruction of the Ward Manager.

The post will require you to check and renew Sharps Bins as necessary and audit management of sharps on a monthly basis.
