Job description

Job responsibilities

Background

Caring for the health and wellbeing of all our people is one of the key themes of our People Strategy. The need for a coherent offer that addresses physical, financial, emotional and psychological wellbeing needs is of even greater importance in light of the pandemic and the impact it has had on colleagues in the last few months and the expectation of on-going impact for next 18 24 months.

Research evidence from previous pandemics (e.g. SARS) (e.g. Ricci-Cabello et al, 2020) suggests that up to about 50% of the LGT workforce is likely to experience significant psychological distress over the coming year and beyond. There is a need to both promote and normalise the message that it is ok to not be ok, thus destigmatising the importance of self-care and seeking psychological support.

Research also suggests that improved psychological well-being in staff leads to improved staff retention (Wright and Cropanzo, 2004) and safer, more compassionate services (Francis, 2013).

Job Summary:

To lead the development, delivery and evaluation of a high quality, evidence based effective staff Psychological Service within the Workforce and Education Directorate. They will work in conjunction with senior staff in order to determine strategy, and agree an overall direction for service development. They will be expected to priorities and deliver on agreed milestones within the People strategy.

Ensure that the Psychology Service is developed and has visibility within the wider Trust, as well as promoting health and wellbeing initiatives for staff. The post holder will be expected to develop good working relationship and strategic partnerships with other departments and stakeholders within the Trust, in order to promote staff mental health and well-being.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering the psychoeducation offer in accordance with Trust needs and agreed priorities.

The post holder is also responsible to set up psychological response team and participate in the delivery as needed.

To lead on and carry out evidence-based audit, policy and service development and research activities programmes to provide assurance that the service is high quality and evidence based.

The post holder will direct and provide expert psychological assessment, formulation-led therapeutic interventions, educational consultations and psychosocial support to staff members.

They will be responsible for leading on research, as well as monitoring outcomes and auditing data in relation to the service.

The post-holder will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary representatives from other departments and the leads from other initiatives to develop additional staff health and wellbeing programmes as appropriate.

They will be expected to liaise with colleagues in the Psychology Department to set up a system for supporting staff in the immediate aftermath of traumatic events.

The post holder will be responsible for the leadership and management of HWB psychology service including staff management, financial management, clinical governance and service delivery.

As a clinical psychologist, the post-holder will work closely with the Trusts senior psychology team, supporting and shaping psychology development within the Trust
