We are looking for experienced Midwives wanting, full time, part-time, or flexible hours to complement our existing team of Hospital Based Midwives. We welcome applications from midwives who are competent and confident at facilitating and supporting women/birthing people in childbirth to have the birth they want?
We are looking for dynamic, inspirational midwives to transfer their existing skills and interests to our unit. Rotations to the Day Assessment Unit and Community are available on an individual basis as part of your professional development.
Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust facilitates care to over 8,000 mothers/birthing people and their babies every year. We have a busy obstetric unit supported by beautiful co-aligned Birth Centres on each site. The Lewisham Site being named a beacon site by the Midwifery Unit Network (MUNet), 2018.

Main duties of the job
You will be required to assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care, as the named care provider and support with the care of all clients on the ward / unit as required.
You will be competent in providing the necessary care and advice to your client dependent on the situation and area you are in.
You will be competent to conduct deliveries under your own responsibility and care for the newborn, whilst having a sound knowledge in all areas of midwifery care.
You will be responsible for ensuring your own continuing professional development and other development activities are completed each year and have completed a preceptorship programme.
You will be an effective communicator with the ability to provide support for the shift co-ordinator to ensure the effective running of the ward/unit in their absence.
You will be required to provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to midwifery and support staff in the delivery of evidence-based client centred care.

Job responsibilities
The post holder is responsible for the assessment development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, both for specific groups of clients as the named care provider and in supporting the care of all clients on the ward / unit. As a qualified midwife the post holder will be required to provide the necessary supervision, care and advice to women/birthing people during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period, to conduct deliveries under their own responsibility and care for the newborn. They should have a sound knowledge in all areas of midwifery care, which facilitates clinical practice development.
They will be required to participate in their continuing professional development and other development activities and have completed a preceptorship programme.
If working in the hospital, the post requires effective communication and an ability to provide support for the shift co-ordinator to ensure the effective running of the ward/unit in their absence.
The post holder will also provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to midwifery and support staff in the delivery of evidence based client centred care.
The teaching and supervision of student midwives, student nurses and medical students are included.
If the post holder is community based, they are expected to work in the community/ birth centre setting but can be asked to rotate between all clinical areas to cover service needs and demands at times of escalation.
