The Diagnostic Imaging service based across 2 sites, Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth, provides an essential service to the Trust and includes 3 SiemensMRI 1.5T (2 x Aera & 1 x Sola).
We are looking to recruit highly motivated and skilled MRI radiographers, with a minimum of 2 years cross sectional experience, to join our MRI team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, primarily based on the Lewisham site with rotation to QEH.

Main duties of the job
This is a fantastic opportunityto work in a busy and demanding clinical environment andto be part of an innovative, dynamic Imaging service at a time when it is expanding.
You will be supporting the MRI Cross Site Lead in:
- Leading the team
- Vet and protocol specific MRI requests alongside the MRI Cross Site Lead (full training will be provided).
- Regularly monitor and evaluate the MRI service delivery with particular regard to image quality and patient waiting times in line with Government and Trust targets.

Job Summary:
- To be responsible for carrying out specialised radiographic imaging to a high standard and in a professional manner, working to departmental guidelines whilst being accountable for own actions.
- To deputise for Superintendent Radiographers.
- The post holder will be required to carry out radiographic duties on a diverse patient population.
- To carry out all responsibilities with regard to relevant and appropriate Policies
- To communicate effectively with clinical, managerial, administrative and ancillary staff in order to ensure a professional and timely service
- The post is based at the Radiology Department, Lewisham hospital, Lewisham.

Key Result Areas:
Clinical
- To independently undertake specialised diagnostic radiology procedures maintaining high professional standards of technical competence and ensuring standards of essence of care at all times.
- To undertake a full range of imaging procedures to maintain knowledge and be fully aware of the safety aspects and hazards, and related emergency procedures when working in the specialised area
- To be familiar with the safety guidelines for all equipment in clinical use issued by the MHRA
- To be fully conversant in all aspects of Magnentic Resonance Imaging safety, including full understanding of the MRI Local Rules and emergency procedures ( e.g. Fire, Cardiac Arrest, Quench.)
- To monitor and evaluate Ionising Radiation Regulations 99 and IR(ME)R 2000 and ensure patients procedures are performed with due consideration of these regulations, taking particular note of all Local Rules for specific areas of the Department.
- To independently assess and adapt techniques and modify protocols where appropriate to optimise diagnostic information in view of clinical indications, image findings or patient condition, following assessment for each procedure, possibly on a patient by patient basis.
- To take responsibility for the care of the patient whilst undertaking the procedure. This includes manual handling, moving the patients in the wheelchairs, beds and trolleys.
- Will be required to work under pressure in order to maintain efficient patient throughput to meet Government targets and to be able to respond effectively to an often unpredictable workload.
- Being able to work on your feet for long periods of time is required. There are short periods where you will sit down at the equipment monitors to enable the correct images to be acquired and checked.
- Offer an opinion on images obtained to relevant medical personnel as per departmental protocols and in-house training.
- To supervise and provide clinical assistance to radiographers, assistant practitioners and students
- To ensure the protection and safety of all patients and staff against the dangers of radiation.
- To act with delegated authority as a referrer and practitioner for limited plain film radiography as per departmental protocols
- To report clinical, non-clinical and radiation incidents in line with Trust and Departmental Risk Management policies.
- To undertake regular QA tests to identify and report equipment faults or inaccuracies with outside agencies as necessary, e.g. Equipment engineers, Medical Physicists, etc.
- Be fully conversant of appropriate actions to take in the event of any untoward incident in the specialised areas being worked in,e.g. projectile injury in MRI, anaphylaxis post contrast administration, pneumothorax during biopsies etc
- To report equipment failures immediately, by liaising with equipment support centres to arrange services and emergency call out for general and specialist x-ray equipment
- To re-arrange worklists in the event of equipment failure, organise alternative cover and inform relevant Trust staffing.
- To assist in the evaluation and procurement process for any new equipment within the Department.
Training
- To participate in the induction and training of new staff, assistant practitioners and student radiographers.
- To supervise, assist and support radiographers and medical staff training in specialist areas
- To undertake formalised assessments of staff training in the specialised area ensuring staff competency.

- To be actively involved in departmental quality groups and pro-active in the sharing of good practice.
To give lectures and presentations within the Trust and to outside organisations on areas of special interest.
