Job description
Job responsibilities
The department works closely with Rheumatology, the Pain Team and our PCT colleagues in developing new pathways to improve patient access into secondary care, e.g. Carpal Tunnels and Musculo-Skeletal pathways for Upper Limb, Lower Limb and Back Pain. Lewisham Hospital has been awarded the contract to provide a community based musculo skeletal interface service. The MSK service provides direct access for spinal, upper limb and lower limb patients. The orthopaedic department looks after the weekly lower limb clinics as part of the MSK service.
There are daily Day Case and In-patient theatre lists, fracture clinics and trauma lists. We compare very well with our peers on average length of stay for elective surgery and we continue to convert in-patient work into Day Case surgery and the Trust is currently 4th in England for Day Case Rates. Both the OPD and fracture clinics are conducted in a designated area and are very busy. There are two dedicated theatres with laminar flows for both in-patient and outpatient elective work and a third in which trauma surgery is undertaken.
