If you are, a unique opportunity has arisen for a band 5 chemotherapy nurse to join our established and dynamic Chemotherapy Nursing team at our UHL site.

Band 5 Staff Nurse -permanent part time - 30 hrs/week , David Whitmore, Suite 8 UHL Site.

Our Speciality:

At Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) our Chemotherapy Day Units, Suite 8 on UHL Site and MBU - Chemotherapy Day Unit on QEH Site that provide excellent care and support for Cancer patients with Solid Tumour and Haemato-Oncology malignancies as well as Clinical Haematological conditions.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Band 5 staff nurse to join our team. The position is a permanent part time time (30 hrs) a week. The successful candidate will be based at David Whitmore, Suite 8 UHL Site. However the post will involve cross site working in CDU on the QEH Site.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be passionate about working in this specialist field of nursing to help optimise high quality patient care. The successful candidate will be good team player who will work closely with the MDT to foster good communication embracing the Trust Values to enhance the patient experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 staff nurse looking for a change in direction to join our committed and dedicated nursing team. The role will involve administering Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) (including chemotherapy) and supportive therapies to cancer patients

SACT administration skills are not essential as full training and support will be provided. It would be expected that the successful candidate will complete an externally accredited SACT course at some point in the future. Job Summary:

  • To provide high quality nursing care in the delivery of cancer treatments in the David Whitmore Suite 8, with cross site working at Macmillan Brook Unit and where appropriate in the Trust for example Ward 21 and ITU.
  • The post holder will work in collaboration with the Lead Nurse for Chemotherapy and team in identifying the developmental and educational needs of staff focusing on the care required by patients.
  • To work as part of the Cancer service within Lewisham and Greenwich Healthcare NHS Trust to facilitate, co-ordinate, lead and support the nursing team to enable high standards of care to be delivered to patients and families. To participate in educational and training opportunities offered by the team to members of staff across the trust.

  4. To participate in the setting, implementing and evaluation of clinical practice standards within the team and ward / unit, and meeting standards within Clinical Governance and government targets.
  5. To act as advocate to patients to ensure a patient-orientated approach to the delivery of care and meeting standards within Clinical Governance and Government targets.

  2. A close working relationship will be maintained with the Suite 8 team and across Cancer services ie Chemotherapy Day Unit and Ward 21, for clinical and educational purposes.
  3. With the Lead Nurse for Chemotherapy and Unit Sisters to assist in the development of the nursing audit, with resulting changes in practice being implemented.
  4. Where appropriate, to work with other team members to provide a positive team role.
  5. To participate in reviewing practice with other nurses within the Trust and to attend relevant meetings and working parties.
  6. In conjunction with other members of the nursing team identify the training and education needs of non-specialist colleagues in order to promote specific skills related to the service speciality.
  7. To work collaboratively with the team to provide teaching programmes / opportunities to meet these needs.

  1. With the Lead Nurse for Chemotherapy and Unit Sisters be involved in the evaluation of their roles, having consideration for the most effective use of staff.
  2. To take an active role in off-duty planning, ensuring an effective skill mix within the available resources.

Essential

  • Registered general nurse

Desirable

  • One year post registration experience in Caring for the needs of patients receiving chemotherapy
  • Recognised chemotherapy course or equivalent
  • Degree in Nursing or evidence of continuing professional development to degree level. ENB 998 or equivalent

Experience

  • To demonstrate up to date knowledge of current nursing issues.

Desirable

  • To have minimum 1 years post registration experience.
  • To have experience of working in haematology and/or oncology
